SHIFTSPACE EVENTS CALENDAR

A Prelude to Grace

Hey everyone, I should have gotten this up sooner, but I wanted to say something about it anyway.

Paul Flippen, Assistant Professor of Painting and Drawing at Wichita State University, will be having a solo show tonight (7:00-10:00pm) at the Tangent Lab.  This is a one night only event, and it's worth noting that this will be Paul's last Wichita show before he leaves WSU for Colorado.  He's been a welcome addition to the WSU faculty and will surely be missed.  So please, don't miss this final opportunity to see Paul's work and wish him well.

Thanks.

Friday, friday, friday! At the WSU Shift Space...

WSU Shift Space is pleased to announce the April 28th (Final Friday) exhibit Wired: Art & Sound by Design.

Wired: Art & Sound by Design is the brainchild of John Harrison, WSU Associate Professor of Violin, and the Director of CRATEL, Center for Research in Arts, Technology, Education and Learning. Harrison, recently back at WSU after earning a Master’s Degree from MIT’s Media Laboratory, offered Technology: Art and Sound by Design, a first-ever class at WSU that focused on the intersection between art and technology. The class, divided evenly between engineering students and fine art students, explored the many facets of computer-assisted technology combined with fine art. In the course, students worked together in small groups building circuits, interfacing them with computers and programming them to operate microcontrollers that provide interactive components for sculptures and installations.

The culmination of students’ collaborative efforts will be on view in Wired: Art & Sound by Design at Shift Space through May 5th.

Please join us for a reception on Final Friday, April 28th from 6:00 to 9:00 pm.

Gallery hours on Saturday, April 29th are from 12:00-4:00. Shift Space will open again on Thursday, May 4th from 7:00-9:00 pm ,  Friday, May 5th 7:00-9:00 pm and Saturday, May 6th, 12:00-4:00 pm.

Things you make with a camera...

Okay, there's a new photo album for Shift Space VII: S.O.S. Rent Event.  I don't really have any pictures of the work because it obviously was sold and taken away before I could document it, but you can see what our little shin-dig was like in case you couldn't make it.  And once again, thanks to all that were involved in making the evening a complete success.  As Stephen Colbert would say, "You folks out there are the heroes."

Money money money!

Hey everyone.  We want to thank everyone that made it out to the show on Friday; turnout was fantastic with about 1200 people.  It's almost a shame we can't just have a party like this every time.  Anyway we made over $6000 so it looks like we'll be staying open for some time to come.  I hope you all enjoy the tiny works that were for sale as much as we enjoyed making them for you, and once again we want to thank our sponsors:  Uptown Bistro, Delano Bakery, Allen Lee Screen Printing, The Anchor, the Wichita Downtown Development Corporation, and Zero Hope Productions.  It was really an enjoyable evening for us, and as soon as I get the time to post the pictures I'll have them up.
