Gallery Management Course
Spring 08



Course description:  Students will experience all aspects of running a nonprofit gallery, including scheduling, curating and programming of future exhibits, advertising techniques, maintaining mailing lists, hanging and striking shows, hosting openings and fundraising.



Course objectives:
Students will assist in lay out and design of a variety of exhibitions and events.



Students will assist in preparation of all levels of advertising including publications for exhibitions, newsletters, catalogues, showcards and posters using both hardcopy and digital formats for gallery announcements.



Students will assist in fundraising including the solicitation of sponsorship and grant writing.



Students will work to form a gallery board; this will include the solicitation of additional student members. First, the board will be responsible for writing and voting in a working mission statement and gallery “bylaws” that will govern the operations of the gallery.

SPRING 2008
1.25   PERFORMANCE. Will include live performances by WSU fine arts students throughout the month as well as video performances shown daily.
2.29   SWAP/MEET Grad student exchange show with KU. WSU alum/KU grad student Sara Kephart will act as liaison in order to facilitate this show.

Students will assist in programming directives that encompass community outreach and cultural enrichment. i.e develop classes and curriculum through The Fine Arts Institute, that would allow students to offer classes to the community through ShiftSpace. The School of Fine Arts is the only school in the college that does not utilize the institute.
