Dreams, hope, desire and illusion are the meeting
point between the four artists featured in Part Two of Season Five of Art:21
hosted by WSU’s own student-run gallery in the heart of Old Town. Fantasy
artists: Cao-Fei, a Chinese artist interested in 21st century media and
exploring life in utopian cities as her avatar China Tracy; American abstract
painter Mary Heilman; the self-merchandizing, multimedia king American Jeff
Koons; and German photographer Florian Maier-Aichen, whose work reinterprets
and reinvents landscape photography.

This event is part of Art21 Access '09, a
celebration of contemporary art and Season 5 of Art:21-Art in the Twenty-First
Century sponsored by Art21. Art21 Access 09 is held at over 300 museums,

Me and You and Everyone We Know

2005

SYNOPSIS

"Me and You and Everyone We Know " is a poetic and penetrating observation of how people struggle to connect with one another in an isolating and contemporary world. Christine Jesperson is a lonely artist and "Eldercab" driver who uses her fantastical artistic visions to draw her aspirations and objects of desire closer to her. Richard Swersey (John Hawkes), a newly single shoe salesman and father of two boys, is prepared for amazing things to happen. But when he meets the captivating Christine, he panics. Life is not so oblique for Richard's six-year-old Robby, who is having a risqué Internet romance with a stranger, and his fourteen-year-old brother Peter who becomes the guinea pig for neighborhood girls -- practicing for their future of romance and marriage.

Hosted by Lauren Clay, a  WSU Graduate Student in Ceramics

The film will start promptly at 7pm

Please bring your own seat and one for your friend.

 "Alternating State"

Kinetic work By Mike Miller and Brady Hatter
February 27th
7:00 pm -10:pm

ShiftSpace Gallery- The  WSU Student Art Gallery in Old Town 803 East 3rd Street

"Alternating State"-Sometimes I worry that what we are doing is way too simple, so simple that it is not art.  To entertain a baby we hang a mobile over its crib; the baby's eyes are automatically drawn to the movement.  It is part of the innate, subconscious brain taking over.
We ask you to explore the part of the brain that loves patterns, waves and rhythm.  Delve into natural cycles of the organic world reanimated through our mechanical inventions.  Discover the memory of something greater than a sculpture can produce.

Duze zwierze "The BIg Animal"
2000

SYNOPSIS
When Zygmunt Sawicki and his wife take in a stray circus camel, his larger-than-life presence transforms their tiny Polish town -- until the citizens begin to turn against the couple and their unusual pet. Written by Krzysztof Kieslowski during the height of communist political oppression in the 1970s, this whimsical allegorical tale slyly makes a case for individuality within an intolerant, conformist society.

HOSTED BY WSU ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PRINTMAKING, MONIKA MELER
The film will start promptly at 7pm
Please bring your own seat and one for your friend.
